The Problem with Playlists
Open any streaming platform and you'll find playlists like "Chill Vibes" with 10 million followers. Sounds great in theory — until you hit play and realize it sounds nothing like your chill. That's because editorial playlists are built to maximize streams, not to match your personal taste. They're generic by design.
The same problem hits algorithmic playlists. Collaborative filtering — "people who liked X also liked Y" — works at scale, but it pushes you toward the popular middle. The quirky, niche tracks that define your taste get drowned out by safe picks everyone tolerates.
You deserve playlists that sound like you. Not a version of you averaged with millions of strangers. That's why we built Expand Vibe — a way to generate playlists from your own words, your own seed tracks, and your own Music DNA profile.
How Expand Vibe Works
Expand Vibe lives inside your Library collections. Here's how to use it, step by step:
- Create a collection — Head to your Library and create a new folder. Add a few tracks that capture the mood you're going for (3+ tracks gives the AI more context).
- Click "Expand Vibe" — It's the violet button with the wand icon, right at the top of your collection.
- Describe what you want — Type a natural language prompt: "Late night drive, synthy, emotional" or "Gym energy, aggressive, 140+ BPM". Be as specific or vague as you like.
- Orphea's AI finds matches — The AI combines your text description with the audio characteristics of your seed tracks and your overall taste profile to find tracks that fit.
- Review and add — Suggestions appear as a list. Listen to previews, then add the ones you love to your collection. Nothing is added automatically.
Use Cases: Expand Vibe in Action
Here are real scenarios where Expand Vibe shines:
- Gym session — Prompt: "High energy phonk for PRs". Result: aggressive, fast-tempo tracks with heavy bass and driving beats. No slow intros, no ballads sneaking in.
- Study mode — Prompt: "Lo-fi ambient, no vocals". Result: instrumental, calm tracks with gentle textures. Perfect background music that won't distract you.
- Road trip — Prompt: "Indie rock, windows down, summer". Result: upbeat, guitar-driven tracks with bright energy. Sing-along material for the highway.
- Date night — Prompt: "Smooth R&B, intimate, slow". Result: soulful ballads with warm production and silky vocals. Sets the mood without being cheesy.
- Party starter — Prompt: "Everyone knows these, dance floor fillers". Result: crowd-pleasing anthems with high danceability. The tracks that get people off the couch.
The more specific your prompt, the more precise the results. But even a simple "something chill" combined with your seed tracks produces surprisingly accurate suggestions, because Orphea already knows your taste.
Expand Vibe vs. Spotify Radio
On the surface, Expand Vibe and Spotify Radio solve a similar problem: "give me more music like this." But the approach is fundamentally different.
- Spotify Radio uses collaborative filtering — it looks at what millions of other listeners played after the same seed track. This works for mainstream taste but struggles with niche preferences. It also can't process natural language instructions.
- Expand Vibe uses content analysis + your DNA profile + your prompt. It analyzes the actual audio features of your seeds, factors in your broader taste profile, and interprets your text description to find matches. No crowd consensus needed.
The result: Expand Vibe finds tracks that match the sound you described, not just what's statistically popular after your seed track. A request like "synthy but melancholic" actually produces synthy, melancholic tracks — not just whatever's trending in that genre.
Get Started with Expand Vibe
Ready to build playlists that actually sound like you? Here's how to start:
- Create your first collection — Go to your Library, hit the "+" button, and name your folder. Something like "Night Drive" or "Focus Zone" works great.
- Add seed tracks — Drop in 3 or more tracks that capture the energy you want. The more seeds, the better Orphea understands the vibe you're targeting.
- Hit Expand Vibe — Click the violet wand button, type your mood description, and let the AI work.
- Review and refine — Listen to previews, add the tracks that click, skip the rest. Run it again with a different prompt to explore other directions.
Expand Vibe is available to all Orphea users. The free plan includes a limited number of suggestions per session. Orphea+ unlocks full generation with more results per prompt and deeper personalization.
